Cadillac’s Series 62 was introduced for the 1940 model year. Initially, the Cadillac range comprised the Series 61, Series 62, Sixty Special and Series 75. Until 1951, the Series 62 was positioned above the Series 61 and, following the latter’s discontinuation in 1951, took on the role of the entry-level model in the Cadillac range. The cars in this new series had a wheelbase 77 mm longer than that of the Series 61. The new model was powered by the 5.7-litre V8 with overhead valves and 135 hp, carried over unchanged from its predecessor. The range comprised a two-door open-top, a two-door coupé, a four-door saloon with a closed body and a four-door open-top. For the 1941 model year, the new automatic transmission, known as ‘Hydra-Matic’, became available as an option for the first time alongside the 3-speed manual gearbox, which had previously been the only option, and the engine’s power was increased to 150 hp. For the 1942 model year, a new generation of the Series 62 was introduced. The range of available body styles was reduced: the four-door cabriolet saloon was discontinued without replacement; the 62 was now available as a two-door convertible, a two-door Club Coupé with a notchback, and a four-door saloon. The bodywork was redesigned. The wings on this generation are very pronounced and extend into the front doors. Following the United States’ entry into the Second World War, civilian car production ceased in February 1942. This also affected the Cadillac Series 62. In October 1945, Cadillac resumed car production. Initially, the Series 62 was the only model range produced by Cadillac; the other ranges were gradually added later. This Series 62 generation remained in the range until the summer of 1947. The Cadillac Series 62 Convertible offered here was one of only 6'755 vehicles built and delivered in the USA in 1947; it was imported to Switzerland from Arizona in 1993. Shortly afterwards, the impressive convertible was acquired by an enthusiast, who had it restored in 1997. Ten years later, he parted with his Cadillac, which was acquired by the current owner in April 2007. The current owner enjoyed using the car for several years but, due to time constraints, parked it in his garage in 2015. He has now decided to sell the Cadillac to free up space. The car has been brought back into service, inspected and serviced where necessary. The Series 62 is now in good condition; the engine runs smoothly, the automatic gearbox shifts correctly and the hydraulic soft top works perfectly. This rare convertible will be handed over to a new owner with a FIVA ID dated 2004 and its most recent veteran MOT completed in September 2026.
