After the G model had been in production for over 15 years, a model change had become urgently necessary. Porsche found itself in a serious crisis in the late 1980s. The Porsche 964 was developed to enable the company to once again offer a modern and marketable vehicle. During the development of this model, Porsche was able to draw on a wealth of expertise thanks to earlier prototypes and small-series models such as the Porsche 959. The 964 therefore incorporates many technical solutions that were not previously available on the Porsche 911: for the first time, Porsche offered a mass-produced vehicle with all-wheel drive. The new concept was a simplified version of the 959’s drivetrain technology. Furthermore, Porsche abandoned the torsion bar suspension used for 40 years on the 356 and 911 models: the 964 was fitted with a completely new light-alloy chassis featuring MacPherson struts at the front and coil springs on the trailing arms at the rear. Power steering and an anti-lock braking system were fitted as standard; the new 3.6-litre engine featured dual ignition with knock control and a regulated three-way catalytic converter. Despite the many innovations, the model name ‘Porsche 911’ was retained; by this point, the term ‘911’ was already too closely associated with Porsche for the company to have wanted to do without it. The Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Targa on offer here, in the rare colour Wimbledon Green Metallic with matching green leather upholstery, was first registered on 1 July 1993 and handed over to its lucky first owner on the 26th of that month by Mofag Automobil AG in Volketswil. For the then considerable sum of CHF 130‘000, he acquired a sports car featuring a 250 hp 6-cylinder boxer engine, a 5-speed gearbox, all-wheel drive, ABS, power steering, air conditioning, electric windows and electrically adjustable and heated front seats. He adored his Targa and, by the time of his passing in 2010, he clocked up around 150‘000 km in this speedster. TThe fantastic sports car was taken over by his close friend and business partner, who – very much in his spirit – has enjoyed driving it just as much over the past 16 years. The complete service history and available receipts dating from 2002 demonstrate the care and attention the 911 has received. Among other things, the clutch was replaced at 121‘306 km; at 149‘648 km, the car was fitted with new shock absorbers on both the front and rear axles; and in 2021, a Porsche Classic PCCM radio with DAB+, Bluetooth and a navigation system, as well as a set of new genuine Porsche speakers, were installed. With just two previous owners and around 183‘000 km on the clock, the Carrera is in good and very well-maintained condition. The Targa will be handed over to a new enthusiast of the Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen brand with an additional set of winter wheels, a fresh oil change and the latest veteran MOT carried out in September 2026.
