Beschreibung

The Chevrolet C-Series or GMC C-Series is a range of large pick-up trucks that General Motors produced between 1960 and 1998. The respective four-wheel-drive versions were known as the Chevrolet K-Series or GMC K-Series. The first Chevrolet pick-up appeared in 1924; from 1930 onwards, the vehicles were designed in-house. The 1960 model of the light-duty pick-up introduced a new body style featuring many innovations. Among the most significant were the new ladder frame, which was lowered in the centre to allow for a lower-sitting cab, and the independent front suspension, which gave the pick-up handling characteristics almost akin to those of a passenger car. Also new in 1960 was the naming convention for GM pick-ups. The old designations for the half-tonne with a short chassis, the half-tonne with a long chassis and the three-quarter-tonne – 3100, 3200 and 3600 – were replaced by the designations 10, 20 and 30 for the half-tonne, three-quarter-tonne and one-tonne models. The C-Series was given a more modern look in 1967. Following this revamp, General Motors marketed the C/K pick-ups as delivery vans for general transport tasks and no longer solely as service vehicles. In 1973, the third generation of the Chevrolet C/K series was launched, colloquially known as the ‘box-body’ or ‘square-body’ truck. At GMC, however, the virtually identical model was officially marketed as the ‘Rounded-Line’. The third-generation Chevrolet C/K series featured a completely new body design that differed significantly from the typical US pick-up design of that era. In addition to rounded windows and door frames, the new body style also featured rounded corners around the cab roof and the wheel arches. Overall, the third generation of the Chevrolet C/K series was available in two body styles – the Fleetside and the Stepside. Whilst the Fleetside models featured a more streamlined exterior profile of the load bed and recessed wheel arches, the Stepside models had visible or outward-flaring (arched) rear wheel arches. The unique GMC C10 Stepside pick-up on offer here was delivered in the USA in 1976. The history of this GMC is unknown until 2015/16, when it was completely rebuilt from scratch by the designer and engineer Tim McClellan for his own use as the ‘Rawhide Ranch Rod’. Virtually every screw was touched during this process: the original 4.1-litre V6 was replaced by a 5.7-litre V8 producing 165 hp, coupled with a matching automatic gearbox; the bodywork was given a unique custom paint finish in a matt rust effect; the load bed was re-paneled; and the interior was completely refitted with light brown leather and bespoke wooden trim. In 2019, this fantastic pick-up was purchased from the seller and, following the usual modifications to comply with Swiss regulations, was first registered in February 2020. Since then, the C10 has been driven for around 3'500 km and is therefore still in good condition and ready for use. This one-of-a-kind vehicle will be handed over to a new enthusiast, complete with the fitted aluminium wheels and a set of original steel wheels including hubcaps, as well as its latest veteran MOT completed in April 2026.
