Beschreibung

Under the Fleetwood name, the US car manufacturer General Motors marketed its particularly luxuriously equipped and expensive models through Cadillac, a car brand belonging to the group. From 1946 onwards, the name Fleetwood initially served as an internal or semi-official supplementary designation for certain models. From 1985 to 1996, it was an official and fully recognised model designation. For the 1993 model year, which began in autumn 1992, the large, rear-wheel-drive Cadillac Brougham was replaced by the new Cadillac Fleetwood, which was technically related to the Chevrolet Caprice and Buick Roadmaster and was therefore still rear-wheel drive. With a length of 5'715 mm, it was the longest car produced in the USA at the time. It was powered by a 5.7-litre V8 engine. Due to its design, the Cadillac Fleetwood was also a popular base for conversion into a so-called stretch limousine – a luxury vehicle that had been lengthened and customized at a later date. The Cadillac Fleetwood Custom offered here was a bespoke model for Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, a well-known guru of the hippie generation, and was delivered by Driessen GM-US in Eindhoven. The saloon, featuring 8 registered seats, 6 doors (with the center doors opening electrically), front and rear air conditioning, a partition, an electric sunroof, an on-board telephone, a bar, front and rear hi-fi systems, a flipable center bench and velour upholstery, would certainly not have been a cheap purchase at the time. After covering a good 109'000 km in the service of the Yogi, the imposing saloon was imported into Switzerland in 2003 and registered here. After two Swiss owners, the Fleetwood was taken over by the current owner in April 2015 with around 145'000 km on the clock. Since then, the saloon has only been used with dealer plates for occasional trips. With 150'400 km now on the clock, the Cadillac is in fair to good condition. The 5.7-litre LT1 V8 engine, producing 264 hp (incorrectly recorded as 257 kW in the registration document), runs flawlessly and the automatic gearbox shifts correctly. The bodywork shows minor signs of rust, and the interior exhibits signs of wear and tear due to its age. The last MOT was carried out in September 2014.
