The original Honda GL-1000 Gold Wing of 1975 represented a genuine landmark in motorcycle engineering, introducing a water-cooled, horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine and setting an entirely new standard for long-distance performance. With its low center of gravity, shaft drive, and sophisticated engineering, the GL-1000 offered an unusual combination of smoothness, performance, and long distance capability. This first-year example is presented in largely stock configuration, benefiting from the desirable addition of a fairing for improved weather protection and highway comfort, together with modified luggage from a Moto Guzzi California. These additions enhance the motorcycle’s touring potential while giving it a distinctive period appearance.
