Beschreibung
Chassis No. 548K14530
In 1954, a wave of graceful styling swept over the Oldsmobile 88 lineup. Under the direction of Harley Earl, many of the model's edges were massaged out, creating flowing contours and establishing a design language that Oldsmobile would carry through much of the latter 1950s. The 88 gained a panoramic wraparound windshield, first seen a year prior on the limited-production Fiesta model.
More significant however were the advances implemented beneath the hood to Oldsmobile's celebrated Rocket V8, which received new cylinder heads and an increase in displacement to 324 cubic inches; the potent overhead valve V8 was now well on its way to kickstarting the muscle car era. The upscale and popular Super 88 benefited most of all from these developments, with a new four-barrel carburetor setup raising output to an impressive 185 horsepower-among the strongest in its class at the time. The Super 88 also received new standard appointments including chrome rocker panel moldings, foam rubber seat cushions, and a pronounced decklid ornament.
This 1954 Oldsmobile Super 88 Convertible Coupé boasts a charming triple-blue color combination. Its elegant bodywork is finished in Capri Blue, which is paired with a dark blue folding Haartz Pinpoint vinyl soft top and contrasted with nicely-kept brightwork and white wall tires. Dark blue leather further envelops the interior, extending from the trim, dashboard, and steering wheel to its comfortable leather bench seats and even stretching to the trunk carpets. It is equipped with the premium Hydra-Matic three-speed automatic transmission, providing a smooth and comfortable power delivery from its potent Rocket V8. Premium appointments include power steering, power folding top, dual sideview mirrors, spinner wheel covers, fender skirts, and AM Deluxe radio.
The Oldsmobile was owned at one point by the late collector John O'Quinn, from whom the consignor acquired the car in March 2010.
Presented today in a stunning all-blue color scheme, this rare 1954 Oldsmobile Super 88 Convertible Coupé is an elegant representation of postwar American motoring, combining its handsome styling with the tactile feeling of open-air motoring. It is ideally suited to leisurely boulevard drives and memorable weekend outings where its period charm is sure to turn heads.
