Ermenegildo Zegna. For those who aren't quite at home in the world where a suit costs more than a second-hand Fiat: this is the Italian fashion dynasty that has been weaving fabrics since 1910 that the average textile mill can only dream of. Wool fibres so fine you almost have to whisper to them to avoid damaging them. And at some point someone at Maserati thought: why don't we just put that style into a car? And so it was born: the Ghibli in Ermenegildo Zegna trim. Two Italian names that both conjure up associations of a life in which you never have to park the car yourself.

A little context, because the Ghibli name has history. The original Ghibli from the 1960s was a wolf of a car, penned by Giugiaro back when he was still young and dangerous. A long, low GT with a V8 up front and the unmistakable arrogance of Modena. The name comes from a desert wind out of the Sahara, and it fits: something warm, something merciless, something that sweeps over you before you notice. The modern Ghibli, introduced in 2013, had to do that name justice again in the segment where the Germans have called the shots for years. The E-Class, the 5 Series, the A6. Tidy, competent, thoroughly dependable cars. And that is precisely where the Ghibli earns its right to exist: where the German is a spreadsheet, the Maserati is an opera.

Right, back to the example standing here shining before you. A Ghibli GranLusso from 2019 in Bianco, with the Ermenegildo Zegna interior. GranLusso is Maserati's luxury trim line, where Sportivo is the muscular variant. Under the bonnet sits the 3.0 biturbo V6, good for 345 hp to the rear wheels. And yes, that engine was developed by the friends from Maranello, because Ferrari and Maserati have shared a kitchen for years. You can hear it. No synthetic, digitally polished soundtrack, but a genuinely Italian throaty note that hovers somewhere between civilised growling and menacing whispering until you hit the throttle. Then it becomes BWWWAAARRR with an Italian accent.

What makes this car so special is that interior. Zegna didn't just supply a little logo on the sill, but a genuine trim in which silk fibres are woven into the upholstery. So it is literally in the fabric. Stepping into this Ghibli feels like slipping into a bespoke suit made by someone who knows you appreciate it without needing to tell you. Calm, warm, and with the kind of details the average German premium manufacturer would never even attempt because they don't fit the business case.

The history of this particular example is a story in itself. This Ghibli began its life at Alfardan Motors in Muscat, Oman, the official Ferrari and Maserati dealer there. Neatly stamped throughout: the second service, the major service with new drive belts, spark plugs, filters and Shell Helix Ultra. In 2024 the car was exported to the Netherlands.

Admittedly, this is not a car for the modest types. Anyone who buys a white Maserati, and in Zegna trim no less, wants to be seen without asking for it. This is the car for the solicitor who leaves the office early on a Friday afternoon, for the art dealer with a gallery in Mayfair, for anyone who understands the difference between a car that does the job and a car that says something. A BMW will get you from the coast to Bond Street just as well. This one does it with a story.

And let's be honest: new, this beast cost a small fortune. A Ghibli GranLusso with the Zegna edition was heading towards a hundred thousand fresh off the brochure. For a fraction of that it stands here now, with the biggest depreciation long behind it, ready for someone who understands that Italian luxury is not a write-off but a way of life.

A desert wind now waiting in Katwijk for someone with style.
