BMW M635 CSi (E24), Pure Motorsport Soul in As-New Condition

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Germany's BMW steadily built its reputation as a maker of driver's cars with a distinctly sporting character. The BMW 6 Series (internal code E24), introduced in 1976, embodied that philosophy as a luxurious Gran Turismo: long distances at high speed, with no compromise on comfort or refinement.
The absolute crown of this range was the M635 CSi (known in some markets as the M6). This model was developed by BMW Motorsport GmbH and inherited engineering derived directly from the legendary BMW M1. Beneath the bonnet sits the naturally aspirated M88/3 straight-six, a high-revving powerplant with individual throttle bodies that ranked among the most advanced road car engines in the world in its day. With its razor-sharp throttle response, mechanical feel and perfect balance, the M635 CSi grew into an icon among enthusiasts and collectors.
This example from September 1988 belongs to the final and most fully developed production years of the E24, making it the pinnacle of BMW's analogue M era.

A historical rarity: ex-Pierre Maublanc

This particular BMW M635 CSi carries an exceptionally rich provenance. The car was once owned by the French racing legend Pierre Maublanc. His name is inseparable from French motorsport, which makes this M635 CSi not only technically but also historically compelling. Its French first registration underlines this authentic origin.

Condition and originality

The condition of this M635 CSi can, without exaggeration, be called as-new. The car retains its entire original paint, is free of accident damage and has remained exceptionally original, a genuine rarity for this type. The Alpinweiss bodywork shows crisp panels with perfect shut lines, while the black leather interior gives a fresh, barely used impression.

Mechanically, the car has recently been given a very thorough overhaul:

• The engine has undergone a major service, with no expense or effort spared.
• The drivetrain performs exactly as BMW Motorsport once intended: powerful, smooth and mechanically refined.
• The manual gearbox reinforces the pure driving experience the M635 CSi is famous for.

With a documented mileage of 91,135 km and an impressive volume of paperwork, this example ranks among the most original and best-preserved M635 CSis currently available, quite possibly one of the finest on the market.

Some cars are called classics because they are old. This one was a classic from the drawing board.
