Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Argento Metallizato

An icon. A masterpiece. A legend. The Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona was introduced in the late 1960s with a simple yet profound idea: why hang works of art on the wall when you can drive them? True beauty is far too precious to be kept under lock and key. Even so, the chances of encountering a masterpiece like the Daytona on public roads are extremely slim. This Ferrari V12 classic is simply too rare, too exclusive, almost too beautiful to be true. Almost, because this truly unique example is genuinely offered for sale at Prins. With emphasis on “unique”: of the early Plexiglas series, only 400 examples were produced worldwide. This is one of them. And this particular car is completely original and presented in concours condition, thanks in part to a fully restored body, an extensive technical overhaul and a remarkable documented history. The accompanying Ferrari Classiche certificate confirms these facts, as do the matching colours and matching numbers. This Italian bella by Pininfarina has previously stolen the show at prestigious events and graced the enchanting coastal roads of the Côte d’Azur. Which destination will you add next?

History
The Ferrari Daytona is a true classic by definition: a V12 at the front, room for no more than two occupants behind it. In short, a traditional grand tourer. An exotic machine that quite literally turns its long nose up at the less elegant sports cars of more modern times. Few macchina possess as much character and flair as the 365 GTB/4 Daytona. The iconic concept was penned by design legend Leonardo Fioravanti, then working at Pininfarina. He created a GT that was far more sharply drawn than its predecessors, the 365 GTS and 275 GTB. As taut and precise as the perfectly restored bodywork from 2006 is, so complete is the documented history from that period onwards. The car is accompanied by an extensive archive of maintenance invoices, a dedicated dossier with photographs of the restoration and overhaul work, an original Ferrari Classiche Certificate issued in 2018, an Italian PRA report, the original owner’s manual, and a recent valuation report from December 2025 stating a value of 825,000 euros. The exceptional condition of this Daytona is partly the result of an investment of 115,000 euros made between 2019 and 2024 by Ferrari specialist Italauto. But the story began in Bologna, June 1970, when this early Plexiglas version of the Daytona was first registered new. Since 2005, the Netherlands has been fortunate enough to host this Italian beauty. Initially, it was added to a rare Ferrari collection owned by a collector, alongside such icons as a 250 SWB, California Spider and 275 GTB/4. It subsequently passed into the hands of a German enthusiast, before being acquired by its most recent Dutch owner in 2019. Over the past five years, the car has completed several long European journeys, covering a total of approximately 15,000 kilometres. The care with which the Ferrari Daytona has been treated during this period is exceptional, and immediately explains its outstanding condition.

Exterior
A car like the 365 GTB/4 Daytona defies description. This is a design that must be seen to be truly understood. Sharp angles, flat body panels, unmistakable elements and original details make this legendary Ferrari classic, in our view, one of the most beautiful of its kind. They simply do not build them like this anymore. The bodywork breathes the spirit of the seventies, yet remains as timeless as can be. Elegance seems to flow effortlessly from the stunning Argento Metallizato paintwork. What a beauty. The coupé version is especially graceful thanks to its exquisite roofline. The Plexiglas version is particularly sought after due to its distinctive headlights, visually connected behind a single Plexiglas panel, a feature that Maranello has reintroduced on its current model range. Connoisseurs will also associate this type with the Daytona Replica driven by television hero Sonny Crockett, who fought crime in style under the Miami sun. Later versions were fitted with the more trend driven pop up headlights. The single bolt wheels with their famous star design, the slim and elegant silhouette, and of course the imposing bonnet leave no doubt: this esclusivo originates from an era in which Ferrari designers were spoken of in the same breath as the great Italian artists of the past.

Interior
Take a seat behind the beautiful, original wooden MOMO steering wheel and you are instantly transported back to the 1970s. Every detail is in outstanding condition and indistinguishable from new. This is pure craftsmanship. The same can of course be said of the Nero leather upholstery and the captivating design. The seats, complete with the famous Daytona inserts, the dashboard and the instrumentation all look and function exactly as they should, including the air conditioning. A special fire extinguisher and a tailor made Daytona car cover from VSOC complete the experience in style.

Technology & performance
At the front of the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona sits a true jewel of a twelve cylinder engine, a 4.4 litre unit fitted with overhauled Weber carburettors. All of its more than 350 horsepower still feel as lively as ever thanks to a comprehensive engine out rebuild. In addition to the magnificent V12, the entire drivetrain has been revised, including the gearbox, differential, suspension and brakes. Nothing was left to chance. The upgrade to an invisible electronic ignition system enhances reliability without compromising the original character that defines this classic. In short, a priceless work of art, fully prepared for many joyful kilometres on the open road. And that is exactly what it deserves. After all, few cars evoke emotion quite like the Daytona.
