Stunning from any angle, the profile of the 275 GTB short nose is one of the most beautiful ever. Designed by Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti, the short nose 275 the first iteration of this much revered grand tourer. Nearly 800 275 GTB of all types were built from 1964 – 1968, with just 250 of the short nose. Chassis Number 06787 was completed at the factory in February 1965 as a steel body European example and delivered new into Italy. The 275 was fitted with a Colombo Type 213 3.3 litre V12 engine with three Weber carburetors making 280hp, and mated to a 5 speed rear-mounted transaxle providing ideal weight distribution. 06787 would find its way to the states in the early 1970s and color changed from its original Grigio to a “candy apple red metal flake,” as reported by Swiss Ferrari historian Marcel Massini’s detailed history report. It would seem at that time as well that the wood dash was extended to the passenger side removing the glove box, and the quarter vent windows removed and replaced with power full glass windows. (The designer himself, Battista Pininfarina, did not like the quarter vent window and built for himself one of the very first 275 GTB without the vent window on the driver’s side – 275 GTB Speciale Chassis Number 06437.) At the start of the new millennium, the 275’s engine was rebuilt by noted Ferrari engine builder, Rick Bunkfeldt’s Vintage Restoration Services of Hartland, Wisconsin. Shortly thereafter, a driver-quality repainting was performed and the 275 sold to its next owner who in 2010 would commission a proper cosmetic restoration to include a bare metal repainting, interior re-trim, re-chroming, and detailing. The current owner purchased 06787 in 2024 and embarked upon a comprehensive mechanical servicing and sorting tallying nearly $100,000.00 with Ferrari specialist workshop, Ken and Darin McCay’s Boston Sportscar. Looking fantastic today, the short nose retains its matching numbers original engine and 5 speed gearbox, and of course the signature beautiful profile.
