Led by Sir William Lyons, a revolutionary car was born in Coventry, UK in the late 1950s: the Jaguar MKII. The car was advanced, with a unibody and disc brakes. Particular attention had been paid to the car's silence, vibration damping and a comfortable but sporty suspension. As the Jaguars motto, launched first time with MKII said: “Grace, Space, Pace”.
The end result was a luxurious and sporty large mid-size sedan. A representative car the kind of bank robbers stole as an escape car. And a capable four-door sport saloon that succeeded also as a racing car the kind that German competitors like BMW and Mercedes could only dream of at the time.
This 1960 Old English White Jaguar MKII was imported and registered in Finland in 1992. The first Finnish owner was Jarmo Karesto from Helsinki. During his ownership, the Jaguar was thoroughly restored by Triangle Motors between 1992 and 1994 and when finished, registered as a historic vehicle in 1994.
During the 1990s restoration, the body of the car was restored and painted throughout in the Jaguar’s Old English White shade. The bumpers, lists and moldings were re-chromed. The seats were reupholstered and the wooden parts of the interior were restored. The Jaguar's engine was dismantled and rebuilt with new parts.
The current owner, J.Vartiainen, bought the car in 2010. The car has been well cared for and has remained in good condition.
The car has been overhauled and serviced in repair shops specializing in Jaguars over the years and it is also in good technical condition. During the current owner's time, in addition to regular maintenance, the front axle joints, engine rubber mounts and cardan shaft have been renewed, and the car has been upgraded with electric power steering.
The car's original 3.8-litre straight-six engine purrs softly. The gearbox work precisely. The power of the straight-six engine is preserved and the car is a joy to drive.
The car is registered as a historic vehicle and the next inspection is in July 2028. A great example of big block MKII ready to be enjoyed.
The car is located in Vantaa, 25 minutes from Helsinki–Vantaa Airport. Views by appointment.
