Beschreibung
Chassis No. AR1493E09220
Engine No. 131532523
Introduced in 1954, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce transformed the elegant Giulietta Sprint into a formidable racing platform. Alfa Romeo created the top-of-the-line Veloce to compete in the growing 1300-cc class in GT endurance racing. Built by the same mechanics who wrenched on Alfa Romeo's racecars and with styling from Franco Scaglione at Carrozzeria Bertone, the Sprint Veloce was a true racer in evening wear. It sported a high-revving aluminum twin-cam engine, upgraded suspension and brakes, a newly floor-mounted shifter, and a strengthened gearbox. The Sprint Veloce's success came quickly; it took class wins at both the 1956 and 1957 Mille Miglia and 1000 Km Nürburgring races-locking out the first six places in its class at '56 edition of the Nurburgring. Additional class wins were numerous prestigious races from the Targa Florio to the 12 Hours of Sebring, often against opponents with much larger displacement motors, cementing the Giulietta Sprint Veloce as a lightweight GT tour de force.
This 1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce is finished in Tornado Blue with a two-tone grey and white interior with brown carpeting. It is one of approximately 200 750E "Interim" Veloces-featuring a pressed steel body and 35 more horsepower than standard.
The Sprint Veloce was first registered in March 1959 as the personal car of celebrated Italian-Venezuelan motorsport mechanic Abele Cavicchioli, former chief mechanic for Alfa Romeo and Ferrari's Formula One teams, who was regularly photographed with motorsport luminaries including Juan Manuel Fangio, Enzo Ferrari, and Mario Andretti. The car remained in Caracas, Venezuela, for much of its life under Cavicchioli's care and only in 2013 it was registered to Antonio Rafael Yanes Lima in November 2013 as confirmed by Venezuelan registration documents. In 2017, the car sold to its current owner based in Belgium. A connoisseur of only the highest echelon of preserved and documented classics, its present caretaker has upheld the Alfa's condition for the past eight years.
Presented today in predominantly original paint (touched up in various areas) and original and very straight bodywork, this example is essentially a snapshot of how this rare competition model was built in 1959. Minor period upgrades have been made to the engine by the ex-Formula One engineer, now producing some 11 horsepower. The interior presents in largely original condition with the door panels now wrapped in protective plastic, only the front seats are known to have been re-upholstered many years ago. Under current ownership, the car was sent to Italian car specialist Tralli Franco in 2019 for an in-depth engine service, and additional engine work through Classic Car Garage Vanluche.
This remarkably preserved Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce is now offered with 32,341 kilometers recorded at cataloging and is furnished with its original owner's manual, period Venezuelan license plates, and extensive documentation including service invoices totaling €22.335, decades of Venezuelan registration cards, a 2021 FIVA (International Federation of Vintage Vehicles) identification card, and dozens of period photographs depicting the car and its well-connected owner.
This Giulietta Sprint Veloce is an exquisite blend of motorsport pedigree, coach built elegance, and remarkable originality. As an exceptionally rare 750E Interim example-carefully preserved and mechanically maintained-this car reflects a significant chapter in Alfa Romeo's long competition history. With its connection to storied Formula One mechanic Abele Cavicchioli, well-chronicled history, and enduring racing spirit, it is a compelling acquisition for those seeking authenticity, rarity, and historical depth in a GT car born to win.
