- Le roadster Z1, véritable vitrine de la marque, fut la première grande série Z du constructeur bavarois avant la Z3 qui arrivera en 1995, et seulement le deuxième roadster d’après-guerre avec l’iconique BMW 507. Belle et étonnante à la fois, son style aux lignes tendues se singularisent par des portes… escamotables.
- Vendu au prix exorbitant de 366 700 Francs, seuls quelques privilégiés verront leurs noms inscrits sur la liste d’attente des 8 000 exemplaires produits entre 1988 et juin 1991. Développé par le département spécial BMW Technik GmbH, le carrossier Baur, General Electric Plastics pour la carrosserie en fibre de verre et Matra pour les portes escamotables, le Z1 est le cabriolet le plus rigide de tous les temps.
- « Disputé » par son épouse après qu’il ait vendu celui qu’il avait acheté neuf en 1990, notre amateur s’empressa d’en acheter un second. D’origine Allemande, notre modèle fut donc acheté en 2009 avec 47 000 km par son propriétaire actuel. Arrivé en France en 1993, il est répertorié au BMW Z1 Club France au nom d’un certain Monsieur S. dans le 83. L’auto n’a parcouru alors que 13 800 km. Dans la belle teinte Traumschwarz-metallic avec une sellerie en cuir et nubuck gris clair, il est équipé d’une double sortie d’échappement ; le son du 6-cylindres en ligne de 170 ch est mélodieux sans être trop présent.
- Lors de notre essai, le comportement de ce roadster s’est avéré sans reproche particulier. La prise en main est facile, la boîte de vitesses est précise et le freinage inaugurant l’ABS sur le modèle se veut rassurant. Seuls les pneus devront être remplacés sans tarder, la dernière révision remontant au 18 juillet 2022.
- Le maniement de la capote est très simple et celle-ci est en parfait état. Il est important de préciser qu’il est autorisé de rouler portes baissées pour profiter pleinement de ce roadster hors normes ! En bel état de présentation, voici un jouet à collectionner d’urgence tant ses qualités dynamiques, sa rareté et son design futuriste font de ce Z1 un authentique concept-car roulant.

- The Z1 roadster, a genuine showcase for the brand, was BMW's first mass-produced Z-series model before the Z3 arrived in 1995, and only the second post-war roadster after the iconic BMW 507. Beautiful and surprising at once, its taut, distinctive lines are marked by its most unique feature: retractable doors.
- Sold at the staggering price of 366,700 Francs, only a fortunate few had their names added to the waiting list for the 8,000 units produced between 1988 and June 1991. Developed by the special BMW Technik GmbH division, in collaboration with coachbuilder Baur, General Electric Plastics (for the fiberglass body panels), and Matra (for the retractable doors), the Z1 remains the most rigid convertible ever built.
- After being “reprimanded” by his wife for selling the Z1 he bought new in 1990, the current owner quickly purchased another one. Originally from Germany, this example was acquired in 2009 with just 47,000 km. It had arrived in France in 1993 and was registered with the BMW Z1 Club France under the name of a certain Mr. S., located in the Var region. At that time, it had only covered 13,800 km.Finished in the elegant Traumschwarz-Metallic color with light grey leather and nubuck upholstery, it features a dual exhaust system. The sound of the 170 hp straight-six engine is melodious without being intrusive.
- During our test drive, the roadster's behavior was faultless. It's easy to handle, the gearbox is precise, and braking—featuring the model's first use of ABS—is reassuring. Only the tires will need replacing soon, as the last service was carried out on July 18, 2022.
- The soft top is very easy to operate and remains in perfect condition. It's worth noting that the car is officially permitted to be driven with the doors lowered—allowing full enjoyment of this extraordinary roadster! In excellent cosmetic condition, this is a toy worth collecting urgently—its dynamic qualities, rarity, and futuristic design make this Z1 a true road-going concept car.
