History :
The German shipping company North German Lloyd (NDL) was founded on 20 February 1857 by the Bremen shipowners Hermann Heinrich Meier and Eduard Crüsemann. In 1857, the first ship, the Adler (Eagle) began a regular passenger service between the Weser region (where Bremen is located) and England. Just one year later, regular lines were launched between the new port of Bremerhaven and New York, using two steamships, "Bremen" and "New York".
There would be many subsequent adventures and the shipping company continued until the 1970s.
