The Ford Model T is not only the founding father of transportation as we know it today but also one of the most popular vehicles of all time with over 15 million variants produced over nearly 20 years. Perhaps even more impressively, at a point, nearly half of all cars registered in the United States were Model Ts! Of these Model T variants, most were closed Sedans and open Touring cars, yet Ford smartly sold the Model T as a bare chassis as well, capitalizing on the entrepreneurship of early 20th Century Americans new to the automobile with a multitude of creative ideas with which to use it. The name of the model is derived from "hackney," a charming term referring to a hired horse-drawn vehicle.
