Aston Martin Virage Volante. The name of this exclusive, drop-top sports car is just as beautiful as the car itself.

Virage is a beautiful French word (meaning ‘bend’) that embodies the car’s continental ambitions. Volante means ‘flying’ and is traditionally the name borne by Aston Martin convertibles.

The Aston Martin Virage made its debut at the Birmingham Motorshow in 1988. Designed by John Heffernan and Ken Greeley it was praised for its fresh contemporary styling. It proved to be quieter and more comfortable than the earlier V8's and was indeed the first truly new Aston Martin in nearly 20 years.
The new V8 engine was a development of the tried and tested 5.3 litre V8, but with new cylinder heads with four valves per cylinder for better breathing and to overcome power losses inevitable with the use of catalytic converters.
The Virage Volante made its premiere at the 1990 Birmingham Motor Show, again a full four seater to recapture that grand touring spirit. The fully powered hood was mohair, the interior hand stitched Connolly hide with polished burr walnut.
Aston Martin Works offered an impressive series of upgrade packages for the Virage, including the 6.3 litre engine conversion, brakes upgrades, wheels upgrades and suspension upgrades.  In addition to the mechanical changes more aggressive styling options were also available, including flared wing panels, deeper air dam and side skirts. Customers could choose a combination of the above on either new or existing cars.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE
Finished in Midnight Blue with Parchment leather interior, this Virage Volante is an extremely rare example as it features the popular 'wide body' specification and has the 6.3 liter 32-valve head engine.

The 6.3 Liter has according to Aston Martin a 40% increase in power over the standard engine.
The 6.3 liter engine is producing 465 bhp with 460 lb ft torque.

These 6.3-litre cars (and the later Vantage) were readily distinguishable by their flared wheelarches, necessary to accommodate the package's wider wheels and tyres, a feature that gave raise to the term 'wide body'.

In the 90’s Aston Martin customers could have their new Aston Martin personalized to the level they vast fortune could sustain. 22 of these customers spent the price of a second Volante to return their new LHD car into Newport Pagnell to dismantle it and replace its body by a wider one, with stronger brakes, stronger suspensions, nicer wheels etc..

According to the former owner, between these, two eccentric customer who achieved to own the rarest Aston Martins ever. For the price of a third new Volante, they demanded the factory to replace also the brand new 5,3 Litre Engine for a 6,3 Litre.
The owner of this example, a German gentleman in the London finance also ordered his car to be in Left Hand Drive in spite of its original Uk registration, he also required a manual gearbox, making his car unique of the uniques. The former Belgian owner was lucky enough to purchase one of these fabulous cars.

An impressive amount of documentation is coming with the car. This includes the original purchase invoice as well as the invoice for the 6.3 liter wide body conversion, correspondence etc. etc.

CONDITION EXTERIOR
The car looks stunning. The condition is spectacular and it is clear that this car led a very sheltered life. T
he paintwork has a beautiful deep shine to it and is free from blemishes or dents. The panels are all original and the shut lines are perfect. The car stands up to the closest scrutiny and the condition is equally as impressive in the door and bonnet shuts.

CONDITION INTERIOR

TECHNICAL CONDITION
This Aston has been very well maintained and service invoices are all available. The last service was carried out by well known Aston Martin Heritage specialist Noble House which is well known because of it’s high quality level.
