Beschreibung

The Healey 100BN1, a creation of Donald Healy, was unveiled at the Earl's Court London Motor Show in 1952. It was meant to be an affordable sports car produced in limited numbers. However , BMC was so impressed with the car that they took over the project and the whole Healey concern. In total just over 10,000 BN1s were built between 1952 and 1955.
The successor , the BN2, was launched in 1955. The major changes were an upgraded gearbox ( the 3 speed was replaced with a proper 4 speed with an overdrive unit ) and the installation of bigger brakes for a more spirited performance.
This car , VFO 398, a left hand drive example , is one of just under 4,000 BN2's built and was delivered to a distributor in the US. It was discovered in the mid 90's by Derek Mayor in a very sorry state albeit complete and unmolested. Derek, a well known concours judge and at that time the National Concours Secretary of the Austin Healey Club in GB , started the restoration process . He used his expertise and experience from his previous restorations to create the ultimate concours contender . The result was so perfect and accurate to the finest detail, that his BN2 was unbeaten in several Concours for many years. As you can imagine , the car was only occasionally used during its life on the concours fields. It was then carefully stored for some years by the proud owner.
The previous owner , who acquired the car about 3 years ago , invested a substantial amount of money to convert the BN2 from a trailer queen into an excellent and nimble sports car for the road . The overall quality remains outstanding and reflects the top restoration of the 90's . The handling is just superb and the 2,6 L engine is alive and kicking . It now corresponds perfectly to the intention of Donald Healey to create a sports car that puts a smile on your face when you look at it and ....when you drive it.
