Beschreibung

– An original Right Hand Drive XK140 Drophead Coupé
– Restored by Lynx Engineering in 1996
– Subsequent no-expense spared maintenance by JD Classics and CKL Engineering
– Overdrive gearbox

Dispatched from the factory on 15th July 1955, 159 RME was finished in black with matching soft-top and tan interior and sold new via Henlys, London to Sir A Gascoigne.

In 1996 the XK was the subject of a major restoration by renowned marque specialists Lynx Engineering, which included refinishing it in its original factory colour combination. Lynx’s accompanying invoices total over £40,000, with post-restoration invoices from JD Classics, Twyford Moors and CKL Engineering. The car today is in exceptional order. Most recently, the XK has benefited from a service and a new clutch by CKL Engineering, who looked after the car for the previous owner. The only notified deviations from factory specification are an overdrive gearbox (fitted around 40 years ago), an aluminium radiator and wire wheels.

The wood on the dash is excellent, all dials and gauges work well and an original ‘His Masters Voice’ radio sits correctly above the gear stick. The chrome and paint are almost without blemish, and it drives exceptionally well indeed. There are as-new chrome wire wheels all round with Vredestien tyres, the spare wheel well retaining an original jack and grease gun. 159 RME comes with an extensive history file documenting the restoration, service work and ownership history, along with a large quantity of old MOTs, tax discs, restoration photographs and handbook. We have long said that the XK140 Drop Head Coupe is the best of all the XK range – it retains the striking looks lost in the XK150, whilst offering the space and wet weather gear not found on the perhaps more iconic 120 roadster.
