The 428 police interceptor engine could be found in both the 1967 Shelby GT500 and the 1968 GT500KR. Halfway through the 1967 model year, the 427 was replaced by a newer 428 Cobra Jet engine equipped with a Holley carburettor with four cylinders.

The highly modified engine apparently had a rating of 360 hp, although it is widely believed that this output was deliberately under-reported to avoid the higher rates charged by insurance companies at the time. The 428CI was not only faster, but also cheaper to produce, resulting in a real "performance car for the people".

Sunlit Gold is not only a beautiful colour, it is one that you do not see often and is the factory correct colour code 3073-A for this car (only 48 copies were sold in this colour). The mudguards, “quarters” and floor pans are all original and the paintwork is beautifully done, with photos of the restoration that nicely document the work. The car features the 'dealer optional' 10-spoke rims with Cobra hubcaps and fresh Cooper Cobra tyres.

The interior is made of 6F Saddle, which looks beautiful with the Sunlit Gold paint. The woodwork is also in a very neat condition and nicely matches the leather. The original and correct two-spoke steering wheel with Shelby logo is mounted on a 'tilt-away' column, a nice luxury option. The dashboard is standard and is still in a very good condition, the finish and controls look good and shiny. The seats have been reupholstered in OEM upholstery during the restoration and the car is also equipped with the correct seat belts.

The car has been restored entirely 'frame off - nuts and bolts', primarily with original NOS parts. A Marti report is included with the car and the car is also registered in the Shelby register. The original build-sheet is also included with the car, as well as the original booklets, manual and even the 'order sheet'. A photo documentation of the restoration is available and the car also has receipts that date back up to 40+ years You're not going to come across a Shelby that is so well-documented.

Open the bonnet and you'll find a 428CI 'Police Interceptor' engine that is as beautifully restored and detailed as the exterior of this Shelby. Underneath the oval Cobra air filter housing you will find the correct Holley 4-barrel carburettor. A C7AE cast iron inlet sends the mixture to the engine, along with Cobra LeMans creased fin-shaped valve covers that help keep the oil cool. The original exhaust manifolds extract the consumed gases and the power flows back through the C6 automatic to the traction-lock back. This Shelby is truly a pleasure to drive.

In 2021, the Shelby will also be provided with a new Dutch periodic vehicle inspection and also a Dutch registration, so the car can be enjoyed immediately.
