Beschreibung

Launched at Geneva in 1963, the Mercedes-Benz 230 SL (W113) replaced both the 300 SL and 190 SL in one stroke and ushered in a new single-platform sports car policy for its maker. The crisp body lines penned by Paul Bracq coupled with the iconic “Pagoda” hardtop made the SL an instant classic. Development culminated with the 2.8-liter 280 SL, which was built from December 1967 to February 1971. Its refinements and enhanced torque captivated road testers and eager customers in period.

This handsome 280 SL has benefited from a restoration performed at Symbolic International of San Diego, California. According to the consignor, the restoration included mechanicals, paint and interior, and the car features desirable and attractive European headlamps. Perfect for relaxed outings, the 280 SL is equipped with a Becker Europa AM/FM radio, automatic transmission, and original air-conditioning. Since the restoration was completed, the car has been driven approximately 1,300 miles. The sale includes a tool roll and owner’s manual. The 280 SL was the most powerful and desirable of the W113 series, and this example, attractively finished in Silver, with a matching Silver hardtop, is a versatile all-around classic.
