This stunning 560 SL is a desirable final-year example and it remains in extraordinarily well-kept, original condition. Finished in Arctic White over a Palomino interior and equipped with a white hardtop and dark brown soft top, the 560 SL was purchased new on June 13, 1989 at Mercedes-Benz dealer Claridge’s LTD in Fremont, California. Its first owner was Paul Jung of San Francisco. Mr. Jung sold the Mercedes-Benz to Hanley Hoey of Redwood City, California in December 1991 and Mr. Hoey would retain the car through 2012. Both owners were fastidious caretakers as evidenced by extensive maintenance records. In a note on file, Mr. Hoey wrote, “I purchased it in 1991 with 2,000 miles from someone that was afraid of leaving the car ‘unattended’ because someone could damage it. The car has never been in the rain and it’s more of a ‘hobby’ car to me and not a ‘driver’ car.”

The consignor, a collector of low-mileage Mercedes-Benz, purchased the 560 SL about six years ago and notes that it remains extremely original, including its original paint and interior. It has since resided within his Los Angeles-based collection and has been maintained by his in-house mechanic and South Bay Autohaus of Hawthorne, California. According to a description on file by the Mercedes-Benz specialist who sold the car to the consignor in 2014, “This is a spectacular collector quality 1989 Mercedes 560SL Convertible. It has 11,915 original miles on it. The car is in pristine condition. Interior looks and smells like new. The car runs and drives like new. Still has all the factory markings like it rolled off the production line.”

Over 90 pages of records document service work over the years and the gradually increasing mileage. The 560 SL is incredibly complete with its original manuals, tool kit, window sticker, data card, spare keys, first aid kit, and CARFAX Vehicle History Report.
