EXTERIOR
Modestly sized the often unloved wedge like form of the 924 has finally started to receive the appreciation it deserves, with its 14″ wheels and pop-up headlights this wonderful little sports car has a real sense of classic nostalgia. Finished in a sensational shade of Light Blue Metallic (U2U2) this particular example is surely one of the best in existence, as it was selected as an entrant to an internal competition between the official Porsche dealer network here in the UK. This competition was aimed to showcase the skills and commitment to Porsche classics and its heritage by the various franchised dealer groups, in this case OPC Bristol’s restoration department.

Dick Lovett Spraymaster team were tasked with restoring the bodywork; following a thorough inspection for rust around the car, they stripped the paint back to metal, checked and repaired all under seal, removed the poor surfaces and resealed to original factory condition. Since completion the car has covered just 89 miles and so presents in concourse condition, with a radiant shine from the deep metallic flake completely uninterrupted by any blemishes.

INTERIOR
Following on from the bodywork the interior of this 924 was also completely overhauled to its correct factory specification. Featuring a period combination black leatherette sports seats with contrasting pinstripe inserts the cabin is a wonderfully retro affair, with the Porsche embossed door cards and fully analogue display rounding off the definitively 80s space. Condition of the interior is impeccable, showing with no signs of wear it is probably as close to a brand new 924 as it could possibly be.

One major upgrade is the Porsche Classic Radio nav system, costing over £1,200 it seamlessly blends a touch of the 21st century into the centre console, providing Porsche Navigation, Bluetooth, SD and USB Inputs.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Producing 123bhp the 2.0L 4 Cylinder engine doesn’t make for the quickest car in the world, but with a manual gearbox, rear wheel drive and curb weight of just 1,080kg the 924 makes for a fully involved driving experience.

Mechanically this 924 is faultless; with 25 stamps in the original service book (23 of which are from main dealers) no expense has been spared in this cars lifetime. In addition to the stamps the engine also underwent a full rebuild by OPC Bristol, with the entire engine vapour blasted and the block re-built before the team restored the engine back to a factory fresh standard.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Fully refurbished the original 14″ wheels complete the bright exterior of the 924 and are wrapped in matching set of period correct Pirelli tyres.

Ensuring the handling of the car was as tight as possible the OPC team also completely replaced the suspension and brakes, stripping, powered coating and rebuilding each corner to prevent any future issues.

HISTORY FILE
Supplied new by Porsche Bournemouth on 28/05/1982 this beautifully specified 924 has lead a double life. 23 stamps in the original service book before 2016 show an incredibly well loved car, at which point it was purchased by Porsche Bristol who selected this particularly well looked after example to be their contribution to the PCGB celebration of 40 years of front-engine transaxle cars, which was eventually displayed as part of a PCGB restoration competition at the NEC Motorshow in 2016.

Photographs and a full breakdown from OPC Bristol show the standard of work the car was subject to, with a bare metal respray, full engine rebuild and complete overhaul of the suspension/brakes all documented by the restoration team. In 2019 the car was sold to the current owner by OPC Swindon, who also serviced the car upon sale. Since the concourse standard restoration took place the car has covered just 89 miles, remaining in dry storage throughout.

Present with the car is the original book pack with stamped service book, Porsche COA, Photographs and detailed write up of the extensive restoration, V5 and 1 Key.
