A faithful re-creation of the Squadra Corse HF Targa Florio class-winning F&MThe brainchild of Cesare Fiorio and Claudio Maglioli, team manager and driver, respectively, of the official Works Lancia TeamConstructed from a 1968 Lancia Fulvia Rallye SCoupe by Vere Lancia of The NetherlandsAs accurate a recreation as one could ever wish to constructThis car led the Fulvia 40th Anniversary Parade at Circuit Zandvoort in 2005 framed poster forms part of the saleOffered with an interesting history file. FreshMOT valid until October 2021Awaiting new V5cfollowing registration transferThe story of the F&M (Fiorio & Maglioli) cars is well known to fans of the Lancia marque. The reason the F&M exists is that Cesare Fiorio and Claudio Maglioli, team manager and driver, respectively, of the official Works Lancia Team, (Squadra Corse HF), saw that the team's driverswere suffering from heat exhaustion at the Daytona 24 Hour race 1969 and the prospect of having the problem in the forthcoming Targa Florio was not a welcomeone.Fiorio and Maglioli decided to basically take the roof off the HF Coup, shorten the chassis by 28 mm thus making it 200 kg lighter depending on if a large or small fuel tank was fitted. The body was stiffenedwith a rigid tubular framework and everything superfluous taken off the car, the resultant loss of weight meaning that it was nowvery competitive against more powerful cars.Of the two cars constructed, one won the 'Prototype Class up to 1,300cc' during the 1969 1,000kmat the Nrburgring, while the second, almost identical, example won its class in the Targa Florio that year. The car offered here today is a faithful recreation of these Targo Florio and Nrburgring machines. Built from the ground-up by expert and respected craftsmen, Vere Lancia of The Netherlands in the late 1990s, this is as accurate a recreation as one could wish to construct. Using a 1968 Lancia Fulvia Rallye 'S' Coupas the donor car, this F&M Special was meticulouslybuilt to race spec with the chassis shortened, the body altered at the waist, and the new body constructed around a tubular frame, just as F&M did in period and utilising measurements taken from one of the original cars.It is an uncompromisingly selfish race or hill climb car, althoughits never been campaigned. It retains its 1298cc engine, albeit, this has been bored and fitted with twin DellOrto carburettors and a fast cam and mated to a 5-Speed Series II gearbox. It sits on period-look ATS wheels and has the most beautifully applied hand-painted Lancia-Italia script to the nose of the car. It does have a passenger seat frame and a lift-off panel should you require a passenger on a parade lap and it'salso fully road-legal with a valid MOT. Accompanying the car is a poster of our F&M leading the Fulvia 40th Anniversary Parade at Circuit Zandvoort in 2005.You can now book a one-to-one appointment (up to one hour) to view this lot at our central location Monday to Friday between Thursday 29th October - 12th November.
