Trade-in car. At the 1954 New York car show Mercedes-Benz presented the prototype that would later become the W121 190SL. The 2-door sports car was in production form 1955 to 1963. The 190SL was a thoroughbred Mercedes-Benz and automatically was aimed at the top of the market. Things like the optional hardtop and looks inspired by the legendary 300SL Roaster were meant to add to its high-end attraction. That the 190SL reminds us of the 300SL is not surprising as Mercedes-Benz wanted amore affordable alternative to its 300SL Roadster flagship. The 190SL had a more modest engine. The 1.9 litre 4-cylinder has twin Solex carburettors. The 4-cylinder, derived from the 300SL’s straight six, produces 104 Hp, making it lively. In 1961 this 1957 190SL was registered in Norway. 63 years later the time has come to restore this car. It forms a great base for restoration. The panelwork requires attention and some repairs. The original DB334G “Light Blue” finish has faded and needs a re-spray. The chassis is sound. The interior trim has retained the original colour scheme, is old with new carpets and mats included. As a good Mercedes-Benz should, it starts without hesitation and drives well. We do advice you to have it fully serviced. This is a the kind of survivor we like to see: Unmolested and a perfect foundation for restoration!THIS VEHICLE IS IN OUR STORAGE, VIEWING BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.
