The History fo the Mercedes-Benz 230 SL "Pagoda"
Elegant design, refined finishes and a noteworthy engine. The 230 SL, presented in the 1960s, represents a model with a marked personality
The 230 SL was officially presented in 1963, on the occasion of the Geneva Motor Show.
The car, one of the most beautiful in its segment, has the task of replacing the now aging 190 SL and 300 SL.
Its main features are represented by an elegant but sober design, with well-finished interiors and an engine with satisfactory performance. In other words, a grand tourer capable of providing an excellent mix of comfort and driving pleasure.
The 230 SL is undoubtedly original in the "pagoda" shape of the hard top, which transforms the car into an elegant coupe for the cold season. The horizontal pattern of the front is accentuated by the air intake with the legendary central star, reminiscent of that of racing cars of 1954-1955.
At the ends of the front, generously sized headlights stand out, incorporated into the glass fairing, similar to that of the 220 and 300 sedans. Horizontal movement also in the tail, stylistically sober and successful.
The shape of the trunk is flat, the two small but solid bumpers are original, under the tail lights.
The sides are enhanced by a large glazed surface and a rather low waistline.
The interiors are well cared for, the seats are comfortable and spacious. Access to the passenger compartment is also easy with the hard top, thanks to the width of the doors, on whose internal walls there are convenient rigid pockets. Overall practical controls. The instrumentation is quite complete.
The “heart” of the 230 SL is a 2306 cc, straight 6-Cylinder, single overhead camshaft (SOHC), capable of delivering a maximum power of 170 hp.
The engine is front and traction on the rear wheels, through a four-speed gearbox all synchronized and a propeller shaft in two sections. On request, at a surcharge, it is possible to mount a Daimler-Benz four-speed automatic transmission. The braking system is of a mixed type: disc at the front (with brake booster on request) and drum at the rear.
The Mercedes 230 SL also proved to be a great commercial success. Even today, thanks to its classic and timeless line and its ease of driving, it remains a highly sought-after car by collectors all over the world.

Our Mercedes-Benz 230 SL Pagoda
This Pagoda 230 SL is presented in impeccable and original condition, with a splendid and elegant chromatic combination in typical Mercedes style, metallic gray on the outside and bright red on the inside.
The car has always stayed in Italy since 1966, the year in which the car was delivered new to a well-known interior furniture manufacturer from Como, who remained the owner for many years.
The engine has recently been overhauled and runs full without hesitation or empty hits.
The interiors, expertly restored a few years ago, are in excellent condition, greatly contributing to enhancing the car's allure.
The original instrument panel is intact and in perfect working order.
The original Bakelite and metal steering wheel fits harmoniously into the interior, while on the central deck in fine red carpet, the original gear lever with knob stands out.
The black top has been restored to new and the tires are new (100%).
This fascinating spider, despite having spent half a century of life abundantly, still drives with great pleasure today, almost like a modern car with the black plates (Como) from 60s, and the original booklet of the time.
This iconic car is now ready to participate in historic meeting and exhibitions, to the delight of its next owner, and is also an excellent investment destined to re-evaluate in the coming years.
Today it is possible to view the car online, by booking a call with one of our commercial operators, via Skype, Zoom, Whatsapp and Google Meet platforms.
