Produced late in 1966, this 1967 model year Porsche 911 was first owned by E. G. Whitney. A mechanical engineer in the NASA space program, Whitney traded in a 1956 356 coupe for the 911 offered here. After his passing, the 911 sat unused in his garage until his nephew, David Rumolo, purchased the car. It was an easy decision, as the car reminded David of fond memories with his uncle. He recalls: “When I used to visit him in Florida, we would head off to car races, watch rocket launches, and go on daylong drives. I was too young to have a driver’s license, so he took me to Cape Canaveral, and I drove around the base. It was the first time I drove more than 100 mph!”

After Mr. Rumolo trucked the car to Colorado, he sent it to a body shop where he replaced metal at the doors and repainted the car in its original light ivory colour. A thorough tune up and clutch replacement took care of small driveability issues. Although the 911 was registered in Washington, at the address of Mr. Rumolo’s summer home, the vehicle followed its owner from Colorado to Sacramento, California and then onwards to Arizona in 1989. Once in the hot desert air, the Porsche remained in Mr. Rumolo’s garage for almost 30 years.

In 2017, it was time to get the Porsche back on the road, and Scottsdale, Arizona-based “Zuffenhausen Motors” was the perfect Porsche specialist for the job. Invoices totalling over $20,000 note the extensive work done; the Weber carburettors and steering system were rebuilt, and a new gas tank, fuel lines, shocks, exhaust system and heat exchangers were all fitted. The engine was pulled, cleaned and painted and all oil leaks repaired.

After being sold to the Netherlands in 2018, the Porsche is now based in Munich, Germany. Accompanied by extensive invoices dating back to the original purchase this beautifully patinated 1967 Porsche 911 is ready for its next long-term owner.
