Beschreibung

The two-cam 275 GTB was built in two series – the early ‘short nose’ bodywork giving way to the revised ‘long nose’ cars during 1965. Then, in 1966, it was replaced by the 275 GTB/4. The capacity of the Colombo powerplant remained at 3286cc but it now featured two overhead camshafts per bank and competition-inspired dry-sump lubrication. The four-cam layout had been used on the Scuderia’s 275 P2 prototype racers during 1965, but this was its first appearance on a Ferrari road car. With six carburettors as standard, it produced 300bhp at 8000rpm, and a bonnet bulge was added in order to accommodate the air cleaners.

The model earned its motorsport stripes via a very small run of much-modified aluminium-bodied competition variants, examples of which won their class at Le Mans in both 1965 and 1966. Primarily, however, this was a high-performance road car, the finest expression of Ferrari’s GT know-how.

This four-cam example was supplied new in October 1967 through official dealer, Motor s.a.s of Bologna. It is thought the first owner was David Penske who was living in Rome at the time. David ordered the car in the subtle Argento Metallic with Pelle Nero interior as presented today. Brother of Roger Penske, David forms part of the well-known American family intrinsically linked to the automotive and motorsport world. With the expectation the car would be used both in Europe and the USA, the car was delivered with its speedometer in miles per hour.

During the 1980s and on, this example would reside for much of its life in the USA, where it was restored in 2007 by Andy Greene Sports and Vintage Race Cars. Evidently meticulously cared for and afforded a high-quality restoration, the car was shown the following year at the Amelia Island Concours D’Elegance in 2008.

In 2012 this example was imported to the UK by ourselves on behalf of a long-standing customer. We have since twice prepared the car to follow the Mille Miglia in Italy, a testament to its condition and reliability. In June 2014, this example was awarded its Ferrari Red Book Classiche Certification.

In 2018 the car visited Italy where it received a comprehensive respray in Italy with Carrozzeria Cremonini and Autofficina Bonini further pursuing some of the finer details to the tune of €19,500.

Fortunate to have known, serviced and stored this example for a number of years, this delightful 275 GTB/4 presents superbly in its elegant and original colour scheme, available to view at our showrooms just outside London immediately.
