Beschreibung

The BMW 2002 was one of the cars that saved BMW as a brand, and it played an important role in putting BMW on the map as a manufacturer of drivers cars. With the 2002, BMW introduced a well developed sports coupé which was much more practical than similar competitors. BMW’s “Neue Klasse” was the key to the company’s survival and its ability to define its future. It became one of the most important models in the history of BMW, as the "02" series was conceived as a proper drivers car from the beginning, and they have kept that enthusiast appeal ever since.

The car which we have for sale, is a rare Touring version in the most desirable "tii" specification. The Touring was the sporty hatchback model which was slightly more expensive compared to the standard 2-drs version, and only available with the more powerful engines. The early Tourings were called "2000" instead of "2002", which changed in 1972. This example has the 130 bhp 2,0 litre engine with Kügelfischer fuel injection, and can be considered as one of BMW's most succesful engines, both for road and competition use. Only 5058 examples of the 2000 tii touring were produced, which makes it quite a rare car. On top of that, this BMW is still in remarkable original and unrestored condition. Apart from a repaint some years ago in the original Sierra Beige colour, this car is still as it left the factory with an original interior and a very sound body. The fact that it was delivered in Palermo - Sicily when new is probably the reason why it is still such a nice and rustfree car.

Driving this seventies sensation is a delight, with good performance, easy gearchanges and strong braking. It really is hard to believe that this BMW is now almost 50 years old, and probably the very first car for the public which introduced the "Freude am Fahren" monniker. This particular car is in fact a perfect start for anyone who wants to step into classic car ownership. It ticks all the right boxes at an affordable price, and will turn every single journey into a roadtrip to remember.

So you are invited for an exciting testdrive with this very original and iconic seventies car, but beware, once bitten you’re likely to be smitten, and you might just have to become a happy BMW 2002 owner.
