Beschreibung

This ’53 open luxery-salloon borrows its name from its bodywork, that reminds us of a ponton of waterplane. Because of its remarkable design, build quality, reliability and of course its class the Mercedes 220S setted standards for luxury cars in the 50’s. Not only was the Ponton built with eye for design and luxury, as well safety was not unimportant to Mercedes-Benz. The 220S was composed out 3 parts; a stiffened passenger cel land shock absorbing front- and rear crumple zones, what makes this car an at that time technical masterpiece. The S-class was in the 50’s the icing on the cake of Mercedes-Benz and that’s no different.

This wonderfull example offered here is according to the original receipt document delivered on 12/06/1959 to its Californian owner at the factory in Stuttgart. According to its fully filled-in and stamped servicebook the owner made a roadtrip through Europe right away, what hardly can dissapoint in a 220S. On 11/09/1959 the car was finally exported to California, according to original douane papers, where the owner spend a loving and well looked after life with the car until 2017(!). It’s needless to say that oldtimers from California are the best on market because of its warm and dry climate, what makes this 220S probably the most exciting example on the market. This Ponton Finally found its way to Belgium in 2017 and was registrated by its second owner here. However the car found itself in perfect condition, it underwent a full ‘nuts and bolts’ restoration, with eye on originallity. So stayed, for example the plates underneath fully original. According to its datacard the chassis- and enginenumbers are matching, what’s hard to find nowadays. Besides that this 220S is configurated with the optional 4 seats and as well optional adjustable seats, what makes this Ponton extremely rare!
