Beschreibung

"The Volkswagen Beetle is the longest-running and most-manufactured car of a single design platform anywhere in the world with over 21 million cars produced between 1938 and 2003. The '1300' model was launched in 1966 and provided the biggest one-time jump in power output by a whopping 25% to 50bhp. The 1960s brought great strides in motorway development and VW's competitors were building ever faster cars to cover the tarmac. The 1300 was fundamental in ensuring that the Beetle was able to keep up with the modern pace. With tighter gearing and having been tuned for higher rpm, the nimble acceleration of the 1300 was more than a match for the later models in the form of the 1500 and 1600, these characteristics have made the 1300 one of the most nostalgic and desired classic Beetle incarnations. Criticised for oversteering characteristics, Volkswagen deployed a double jointed rear axle from 1969 which all but eliminated the problem making the 1300 a truly well balanced and highly capable machine. It has been regarded as something of a ‘cult’ car since its 1960’s association with the hippie movement and surf culture.
Supplied originally by Goodlife Garages in Croydon on 20th June 1969, this Beetle has clearly been a well looked after example and presents in good order today. The vendor is a very knowledgeable Volkswagen enthusiast and is only selling the car due to lack of suitable storage space. The 1285cc engine burst into life when requested and ran very well. We are advised she drives with no known faults. The original service book accompanies this Beetle and has 22 stamps in it, the last one was on 29th March 2017 at 100,377 miles although the vendor has had work carried out during his tenure. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a history folder with a number of invoices which confirm a new clutch and starter motor were fitted at 85,694 miles. We are advised a fresh MoT will be carried out prior to the auction. This car is offered to auction without reserve."
