Beschreibung

Launched at the Paris Motor Show in 1955, the Citroen DS shook the world with its aerodynamic design and innovative technology. It was known as one of the most popular French cars. Taking in 80000 deposits in 10 days from the official unveiling.  The Citroen DS is a symbol of French ingenuity and was developed in secret over an 18-year period. The DS is remembered as one of the most successful cars to ever be produced and it's innovative design was ahead of it's time when compared to other cars of the 1950's.

FEATURES
Manufactured from 1955 to 1975, the DS featured a number of unique and special features such as:

Hydro-pneumatic suspension for a better ride,
Power steering for easier turning at low speeds,
Disc brakes (first for a production car),
A fiberglass roof which lowered the center of gravity,
Independent suspension,
New radial tyre technology which Citroen engineers exploited through its parent company Michelin
Indicators located inside the top left and right sides of the rear windscreen.

The DS was designed and penned by Italian designer Flaminio Bertoni, who also designed the Citroen 2CV and the Citroen Traction Avant.  The term DS is a play on the words "Dee Esse" which translates to "Goddess"

Citroen DS’s that were made locally were initially built in Johannesburg. However, production was moved to Port Elizabeth in 1970, with a few differences to European version. Mainly being the seats, which were Vinyl over foam cushions, and other minor locally sourced items, making them more cost effective to produce.

The Citroen DS was also successful in motorsport. Winning in the Monte Carlo Rally in 1959 and 1966 as well as winning the 1000 Lakes Rally in 1962 in a DS12,

This is a South African made model manufactured in 1973 A comprehensive restoration was done about 10 years ago. A recent service of the carburetors, oil and filters has recently been completed, giving it a new lease on life for years to come.
