Beschreibung

"First shown at Frankfurt in 1965, the new S-Class Mercedes-Benz range was outwardly distinguishable from preceding models by a sleeker bodyshell with lower roof and waistlines and an increased glass area. All models featured similar all-independent suspension as well as four-wheel disc brakes and power-assisted steering. However, although the saloon used this ‘New Generation’ bodyshell, the Coupé and Cabriolet kept the timelessly elegant coachwork that had debuted back in 1960 on the 220 SEb. The latter had moved Mercedes-Benz’s styling into the modern era; longer than their predecessors, these elegant cars featured a wider radiator shell, wrap-around windscreen, enlarged rear window and vertically positioned twin headlamps, all of which were carried over to the 250 SE Coupé and Cabriolet. The 250 SE employed a fuel-injected version of Mercedes-Benz’s new, overhead-camshaft, seven-bearing ‘six’ displacing 2,496cc developing 150bhp. There was a choice of four-speed manual or automatic transmissions, while the rear suspension featured Mercedes-Benz’s hydro-pneumatic compensating spring. Today all examples of these classic Coupés and Cabriolets are highly sought after. The 250 SE’s production life was relatively short (September 1965 to December 1967) and only 6,213 were built.
This nice original example, once owned by the well-known journalist and television broadcaster Sir David Frost, is presented in gold with a black interior and has been maintained over the last six years by Mercedes-Benz specialist Colin Ferns Ltd near Richmond, Surrey. This elegant and sought after model is powered by the smooth 2.5 litre engine mated to an automatic gearbox, providing effortless touring capabilities which these Mercedes-Benz were famed for. Accompanying the car is a current V5 registration document and an MoT test certificate which is valid until March 2020. The boot space has more than adequate luggage room for modern travel and in this wonderful original condition, one can certainly use it everyday as indeed it was intended when first manufactured. Please note that the private registration number is being retained and a new age related one is in the process of being obtained from the DVLA."
