1971 Mercedes Benz 280SE 3.5 coupe, S/N 11102612002172, the final iteration built on the W111 chassis, our 3.5 is colored in its delivered new color scheme of DB423 Tobacco Brown with cognac interior, and powered by a 3.5 litre V8 engine putting out 200hp, mated to a 4 speed automatic transmission with the desired floor shift, also fitted from new with Behr air conditioning, power windows and a Becker Europa radio. Our 3.5 coupe was delivered new by Wetzel Motor Works Mercedes Benz on July 31, 1971 and would go on to live in Pennsylvania until 2002 when it came into a small collection here in New England. Throughout its lifetime, the V8 was lavished with attention in noted workshops – Motortrade in Pennsylvania, Hatch & Sons here in Massachusetts and most recently a “freshening” to all systems by Jim Cosgrove’s Old Timer Restoration Center here as well in Massachusetts, tallying nearly $120,000.00. This refurbishment work included a complete repainting in the original DB423 Tobacco Brown, full mechanical rehab and, wood refinishment. The upholstery is all original and beautifully worn in, with the driver’s seat bottom showing a bit extra wear, which we have chosen to leave alone to preserve its originality. With just 55,500 original miles, our 3.5 coupe so well sorted making for a fantastic drive.
