Beschreibung

"The Mercedes-Benz G-Class or G-Wagon, short for Geländewagen, (cross-country vehicle) is characterised by its boxy styling and body-on-frame construction. It uses three fully locking differentials, one of the few vehicles to have such a feature. The G-Class is still in production and is one of the longest produced Mercedes-Benz in Daimler's history. It was developed as a military vehicle from a suggestion by the Shah of Iran and offered as a civilian version in 1979. The first major refinements were introduced in 1981, including an automatic transmission, air conditioning, an auxiliary fuel tank, protective headlamp grilles and a cable winch. Fuel injection became available in 1982 when the 230GE was introduced in Turin, along with more comfortable and supportive front seats, auxiliary heating, wider tyres and fender flares. For 1985, differential locks, central door locking and a tachometer become standard.
Originally delivered in 1990, this good looking automatic 280GE G-Wagon has benefitted from an impressive restoration. The list of works includes a full body off restoration which involved changing various body panels and new front wings, a complete suspension and running gear rebuild, a reconditioned petrol tank, a new radiator with hoses, belts and pumps. The file for G948 JHB contains a number of previous MoT test certificates, a well stamped service book and the original owner’s manual. The restoration works completed are documented in an impressive bound book. Offered to auction with a V5C registration document and an MoT test certificate valid until March 2020, surely this superb G-Wagon must be one of the finest examples in today's market place."
