Beschreibung

"In the early 1970's, Porsche had designs on racing a turbocharged version of the 911 in support of which they planned to create a homologation special along the lines of the Carrera 2.7 RS. A change in the rules negated the need to sell a precise number of street legal race vehicles but the company decided to continue with the project anyway - the Porsche 911 Turbo or 930 was born. The 930 was introduced at the Paris Motor Show of 1974 and was the fastest production car available on the German market. It was based around the Carrera RS 3.0, the engine from which was modified, courtesy of turbo technology originally developed for the 917/30 CAN-AM cars. Initially, power output was 260bhp but from 1978, it was increased to 300bhp by raising the engine capacity to 3.3 litres. To accommodate the extra performance over the RS 3.0, the 930 sported revised suspension, larger brakes and a robust, four-speed gearbox. In order to help deliver the power to the road, a 'whale tail' rear spoiler was fitted and a wider rear wheel and tyre package was squeezed under specially flared arches. Adding this level of power to the already oversteer-prone handling of the 911 created a car that was not for the faint hearted. In skilled hands, however, a 930 will show a clean pair of heels to most of its rivals. In 1989 Porsche discontinued the 930 after model year 1989 when its underlying ‘G-Series’ platform was being replaced by the 964. The 1989 models were the first and last versions of the 930 to feature the G50 transmission, a five-speed manual transmission and are significantly more desirable for collectors and enthusiasts alike.First registered on 1st August 1990, although produced in 1989, this outstanding example of this genuine 911 Turbo is presented in its original colour combination of Linen Grey paintwork with full Silk Grey Leather and has been under the care of our fastidious vendor for the past 23 years. Complementing the desirable Getrag G50 five-speed gearbox only found on the 1989 production year, the expensive list of optional extras on this example include the desirable limited slip differential, sport seats with electric height adjustment, shortened gear lever, Blaupunkt Toronto stereo with amplifier, lower dashboard in Linen Grey and black piping to the front seats, linen metallic wheel centres and Porsche painted wheel crests. Prior to our vendor’s tenure, owners included Roger Whittaker, the singer-songwriter and musician, who sold the 911 to the keeper before our vendor who purchased the car in 1995 through his family steel business in Sheffield. It remained registered to the company for a number of years before he purchased the car from the company privately on 6th June 1997. The car has been stored in a heated and dehumidified garage and the history file displays a comprehensive service history; the original stamped service booklet having been completed at regular mileage and date intervals throughout its life. Also included are further invoices and documentation together with almost every MoT test certificate, the original book pack, two sets of keys, the original and complete set of tools and an unused space-saver wheel and tyre with Porsche factory supplied compressor and pressure gauge. This car is described by our vendor as completely original including its fabulous paintwork and is one of the best examples we have seen. It is offered with a declaration of no recorded damage and a further declaration from Porsche detailing the original specification within the vast history file. 911 / 930 Turbos from 1989/90 are superb drivers’ cars as the Porsche collecting community out there already know. With this example ticking every box - provenance, low mileage and stunning condition combined with originality - we think you would struggle to find a better example and a potentially great investment.
