Beschreibung

The first significant changes to Porsche’s inaugural production 356 were introduced at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September 1955. The new 356 A was bodied by Reutter of Stuttgart, and gained fully curved windshields, body and interior updates, a revised suspension, and comprehensive instrumentation.

This exceptional Cabriolet, sold new in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, has reportedly had just four owners. The third owner, Robert Wiedemeyer of St. Simons Island, Georgia, completed a two-year, $128,000 restoration in summer 2017 for the consignor. The car has been driven less than 850 miles since that time, and the consignor reports that the car is performing very well. This 356 A is finished in its original color of Meissen Blue with a new brown leatherette interior. The consignor states that the car has never been drilled to receive a soft top, and was sold as a rare, hardtop-only example.

This Cabriolet is supplied with an additional hardtop, as noted on the accompanying Porsche COA, and the engine and transaxle numbers correspond to numbers listed on the COA. In addition, the consignor reports that the stamped body panels match the last digits of the chassis number. The desirability of early Porsche models is invariably connected with their striking period colors, such as Meissen Blue, chosen almost 60 years ago for this Cabriolet. Well-positioned for PCA events as well as the open road, this special 356 A is poised to delight its next owner.
