The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow won instant acclaim from the motoring press after its October 1965 announcement. The car was smaller overall from its Silver Cloud predecessor, but this was outweighed by the Shadow having a more spacious interior and considerably more luggage space in the “boot.” This additional space for personal accommodation was influenced by being the first Rolls-Royce to use a monocoque chassis. Aside from a more modern appearance and construction, the Silver Shadow introduced many new features such as disc rather than drum brakes, and independent rear suspension, rather than the outdated live axle design of previous cars. Produced in various, ever-evolving forms from 1965 to 1980; the Shadow was the mainstay from 1965 to 1980 with 16,717 total units built , while the Shadow II was the 1977 to 1980 offering with an additional 8,425 cars produced.

Presented in a rich color combination of an exterior wine-tone with tan leather interior; this series of Rolls-Royce is always notable for beautifully crafted burled wood interior trim elements. This is reported as “an honest, original car that runs and drives great with a well-preserved interior, clean engine bay and has paint in good condition.” The Silver Shadow is driven by a 6.75-liter, 189-hp V-8 engine that is paired to a GM-supplied four-speed automatic transmission. Among the features are original Connolly leather hides on the seats and associated trim, original burled wood on the dash, console and door trims, original wool carpets, remote driver’s side mirror, air conditioning (now a standard item), Phillips AM/FM radio; power four-wheel disc brakes, windows and steering. Most distinguishing of all is the ubiquitous Rolls-Royce grille with the Flying Lady mascot grandly posed on top.
