-One Of 345 Equipped With Larger K-24 Turbos
The 993 Turbo S is without a doubt the ultimate 993, and like all turbo 911’s, has a more athletic, pumped-up appearance than the standard 911. As with earlier turbos, beginning with the 930, the fenders have been flared outwards to fit much wider front and rear tires, giving the car a sinuous, soda-bottle shape similar to the 959’s. The S-version is further differentiated from the standard Turbo by its yellow brake calipers, larger-than-normal-turbo rear wing, and 959-style air scoops behind the doors. It’s impossible to ignore in your rear-view mirror, and it won’t be there for long.
THIS CAR’S PAST
This 993 Turbo S was purchased new from Brumos Porsche, as a birthday present for its first and only owner to date. It has been housed in his collection and beside several other exclusive automobiles since, and driven only occasionally during the Spring and Summer seasons for exercise.
HISTORIC CONTEXT OF MODEL
This Turbo S, having been made in limited numbers, differs from the standard Turbo. Only approximately 345 were manufactured for the entire world. It has larger, K-24 turbochargers, an upgrade for the Motronic engine control unitade, additional oil cooler, and a modified dual exhaust with Quad round tips vs. the standard dual ovals. These, along with a few minor engine improvements, produced 424 hp, 25 hp more than the standard turbo, in the last of the traditional, air-cooled 911 Turbos. Motor Trend ran a record-setting 0-60 time of 3.7 seconds and the quarter mile in just 11.9 seconds! The Turbo S was further distinguished from the standard Turbo by Aerokit II front and rear spoilers, a pair of side-mounted air ducts, and additional air inlets near the headlights.
