The Model: Named in honor of the famous WWII fighters that helped win the Battle of Britain, the Triumph Spitfire was first unveiled in 1962. Over the years five generations of this little car were marketed, culminating in the 1500 series produced from 1974 to 1980. As the legendary TR3’s were being phased out, Triumph needed a small sports car to which Michelotti’s design captured all the elements including roll-up windows adding comfort for the passengers day or night. In its final incarnation, the engine was one of the most powerful in a small sports car with very high torque ratings for a little fourbanger. The Spitfire 1500 featured a number other improvements such as real wood used on the dashboard, upgrade knobs and switches plus all around improved electrical systems, wiring and connectors. The 1500 would make the end of the road for Spitfire, one that had 19 years of success.

The Car: Countless young men and ladies were introduced to the world of British sports cars from behind the wheel of a Triumph Spitfire. For nearly two decades these smaller, sleeker and fun-to-drive sports cars sold in good numbers. Many of them were driven into the ground, used and abused; rebuilt and then used up some more. It is rare to find a survivor in the condition of this Spitfire. Finished in its original Java Green with black vinyl bucket seats, this 1500 series features its original engine, transmission and factory applied markings. Kept in climate controlled storage for a number years, it is today a time capsule from a different era. The Smith gauges are all clean, readable and functional while the engine has recently detailed to factory specs. Riding on original Rally-style wheels this car also has a factory optional rear deck luggage rack. A fantastic opportunity to purchase a fabulous car.
