The Model: The legendary LeMans­-winning GT40 program found its success when Ford brought in Carroll Shelby to turn the program around. Shelby’s development ultimately led to four LeMans victories for the famed GT40. When Ford revealed the Ford GT40 Concept in 2002 as part of its upcoming centennial celebration the overwhelming enthusiast demand for production led to Ford moving quietly forward with secret development of a production car. Ford once ­again brought in Carroll Shelby to help with the project known under the code name, Petunia.
