The Volvo P1800 is best known for its spell of television stardom in the hands of Roger Moore in the cult 1960’s television series The Saint. Perhaps over shadowed by the launch of the E Type, rumour has it that the TV chiefs only turned to it for the series as the E Type was not yet at that time in production. While it obviously did not have the performance of the Jaguar it certainly had great style and individuality, and undoubtedly managed to capture its own crowd of enthusiasts. Volvo had at this time already established themselves as builders of robust and enduring cars, but were not best known for flair and imagination, but the P1800 they had produced an exotic and sleek two door sports coupé, that was seen as particularly avant garde when it was launched in 1960.
