This is Original steering wheel of the 1954 Ferrari 500 Mondial Spider PF (chassis nummer: 438MD), owned by Portofiro Rubirosa, raced by von Neumann, Phill Hill, Richie Ginther, Lew Yates and driven by James Dean. In 2014 a new steering wheel was installed to replace the Original when the car was restored by the Ferrari Dipartimento Classich in Maranello.
The Ferrari 500 Mondial Spider PF in which this wooden steering wheel was attached was auctioned at Bonhams. Steel wheel and spokes with the fine italian walnut cladding and rose-briar finger dots on the back. Signs of wear, yet excellent condition. Ext. Diam: 41 cm, Hom insert Diameter 7 cm
