Dario Franchitti is one of the UK’s best known racing drivers. Having cut his teeth in Formula Vauxhall and Formula Three, he went on to race touring cars for AMG, before switching to open-wheel racing in 1997. Between 2002 and 2013 he contested the IndyCar Series, winning the championship outright four times, including three wins at the Indianapolis 500.

The 2004 season was particularly notable for Franchitti, as it saw him notch up his first and second ever race wins in the IndyCar Series, at Milwaukee Mile in July and Pikes Peak in August.

This lot comprises an original, ‘as raced’ body shell fairing from the 2004 Andretti Green Team Dallara/Honda car, raced by Dario Franchitti. It is made up of four separate parts; the floor, two sidepods, and the main engine cover element.

The composite construction is clearly visible at the rear and inside, while the exterior of the bodywork is finished in the blue and white livery with original sponsor logos.

Taken from one of Franchitti’s cars during the 2004 season, this is a fantastic piece of IndyCar automobilia, which would be a fun acquisition for any motorsport fan. While it could perhaps be used as a shell for an eye-catching racing simulator setup, this is a striking item in its own right, to keep as a conversation-starting static display piece.
