Beschreibung
Volkswagen’s sleek Karmann Ghia was first shown as a concept vehicle at the 1953 Paris Motor Show. Internally dubbed the Type 14, the design was penned by Ghia’s Luigi Segre, and put into production at Karmann coachworks. Following the rising standard of living in postwar Germany, the Karmann Ghia was more expensive to build and posed more production challenges than the Beetle, but the public’s response to the elegant coupe exceeded expectations. Lower, wider, and more luxuriously appointed than its progenitor, the model achieved global popularity, and was built from 1955 through 1974 in several different versions, with over 450,000 constructed in total, including Coupes and Cabriolets.
This handsome Karmann Ghia Coupe is presented in Sea Sand, an original color for the 1965 model run, and has been elegantly accented with an ivory roof. The Teak Pepita upholstery ties the combination together beautifully on this highly original example. A vintage service sticker from the famed Art Bunker Volkswagen of Kansas City is affixed to the car, as is a Missouri registration sticker dated 1989. Overall, the Volkswagen is extremely well presented, with the engine and front compartments appearing especially clean. With its proper ride height upon Firestone whitewall tires and stock beauty rings, this Karmann Ghia truly embodies the look of the era. Showing just over 31,000 miles, this beautiful Coupe is sure to impress both the casual observer as well as the Volkswagen aficionado.
