The 'People's Car' had many variants from 1938 until the end of production in 2003 and, although the sedan version was the most practical and popular, the success of the Volkswagen fuelled the creation of a cabriolet version.

The cabriolet was manufactured by Karmann, a body-building company founded in the 19th century, which began production of the first cabriolet Beetles in 1949.

This 1300 was sold new in January 1966 in Chicago, USA. It retains all its original features and is 'full matching numbers', i.e. it has the same 1285 cc 50 Cv engine it left the factory with in 1965.

It's painted in Yukon Yellow, with a black bonnet and upholstery, and has white tyres - just like the original 1966 options! It comes with the original sales receipt and a certificate of historical interest from the Portuguese Antique Automobile Club.
