Not all Triumph TR6’s are equal as this one clearly proofs. What a car! This Triumph was supplied by the American, Los Angeles based British Leyland Motors INC in 1973. In 2017 the TR6 arrived on Dutch shores. The trip across the Atlantic was just the start of this TR6’s adventure. The TR 6 had already been very well and thoroughly restored in the States. Unfortunately the American documentation has not survived but on inspection it would appear that the restoration was finished just before being shipped. The car had a full “body-off” restoration with both bodywork and chassis still in very good shape. The bodywork is pristine with nice and thin, correctly aligned panelwork. The chassis is prefect with the new suspension parts in prime sight, a subject we will come back to later on. The lovely “France Blue” finish is an eye-catcher. This colour is a perfect fit for the car and was properly applied during the restoration. The overall condition of the paintwork is very good other than a few very light signs of use. The linen hood is also is good shape and shuts securely. The hood’s navy blue contrasts the lighter blue paintwork perfectly. A matching tonneau cover completes the picture. The interior is as lovely as the outside. The interior trim has blue carpets and black leather seats. The door cards are covered in blue vinyl, matching the carpets. The seat leather is good and undamaged. The dashboard has perfectly working Smith instruments and a new odometer measuring in kilometres. The old mile odometer was changed to the new one on the 15th July 2018 at 84,048 miles. The change has been extensively documented. We now turn our attention to the car’s mechanics virtues. Over the last three years this TR6 was mechanically completely rebuilt. The old engine was not up to scratch and to far gone to be repaired. A replacement block was sourced together with the help of specialists. Following this the engine was totally rebuilt. The build was recorded with a series of photos invoices of over € 20,000.-, and e-mail correspondence. Everything points to the fact that this rebuild was a thoroughly well though out effort. The engine has been fitted with 3 Weber 40 DCOE 151 carburettors, a different camshaft and a 1-2-3 ignition. This all led to an excellent result with the tuned car hitting 148,5 Hp at 4,778 revs on the rolling road. You can just as well tour sedately with this car developing 250 Nm of torque at 3,000 revs. Not only is the engine responsible for this TR6’s fantastic driving experience. The rest of the mechanics were also meticulously overhauled. Large parts of the suspension and brakes were replaced as well many of the engine mounts being new or overhauled. Finally a number of other items have been added as a crowning glory. There is a stainless steel luggage rack, a stainless steel sports exhaust, oil cooler, mass switch an electric cooling fan. To top it all the car stands on four brand new tyres. We think it must be quite clear to all; This is a top quality Triumph TR6!
