Beschreibung

"The TR5 was built for a 13-month period between August 1967 and September 1968 in Coventry. Visually identical to the Michelotti styled TR4, the TR5 hid the main differences under the body. The most significant change was the 2.5 litre straight-six fuel-injected engine developing around 150bhp and which was carried forward to the TR6. At the time, fuel injection was uncommon in road cars. Triumph claimed in their sales brochure that it was the ‘first British production sports car with petrol fuel injection’. This engine could propel the TR5 from 0-50mph in just 6.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 125mph. Standard equipment included front disc brakes, independent rear suspension, rack and pinion steering and a four-speed gearbox. The available optional extras included overdrive, wire wheels and a hardtop with detachable roof panel, known as the ‘Surrey Top’.
Built on 27th December 1967 and despatched on 12th February 1968 to L.F. Dove Limited in Wimbledon, London, this beautiful TR5 is presented in its original and highly desirable colour of Valencia Blue. A right hand drive home market car, it is a manual car with overdrive gearbox. Boasting a Surrey top and in stunning condition, this wonderful example is exceptional. Having benefitted from a full restoration in 2010, testament to the quality of the work done, the car presents as a car restored within the last year or two. Inside and out, underneath and in every crook and cranny the car is remarkably clean. The engine bay presents almost like new, and the inside of the wheel arches look as if they have never seen a puddle! The interior and the paint are also all in excellent condition. A long and fully itemised invoice from Robert J. Foster Motor Engineers shows the complete mechanical restoration the car had. The car has also just benefitted from a thorough going through with a sympathetic detailing to bring it back to its very best. Even more unusual for a car like this, it has remarkably low ownership with only three former keepers, the first for thirty years, the second for ten years and third for fifteen years. The vendor reports the car to run and drive extremely well and is only selling to fund a pending unexpected purchase.
Offered to auction with a V5C registration document, photo record and invoices along with a Heritage Certificate. With the looks of the TR4, but the performance of the TR6, these TR5 Triumphs are always the most desirable of the entire TR series and with such low ownership and in such good condition, hard to come by.Interested parties should note that this car was restored with reliability in mind for when touring. Given this, the following items were addressed; the engine was rebuilt by the well renowned Rob Forster with a fast road cam about 10,000 miles ago in 2010. It is fitted with a stainless steel exhaust system. The gearbox was rebuilt and upgraded using various Triumph Stag internals by ORS gearbox specialists. The front brakes are uprated Wilwood 4 pot items. Spax adjustable shock absorbers fitted all around. Kenlowe fan with separate cockpit override switch fitted. Cockpit mounted hazard light switch, (a legal requirement for driving in Europe). Brand new wiring loom in 2022. Uprated aluminium radiator. Long range custom built aluminium fuel tank with swirl pot. Bosch fuel pump. Electronic ignition. Period stainless steel luggage rack and period Lucas spot lamps.
