As a symbol of freedom, the English company Triumph worked on a light and sporty roadster model from the end of the 1940s. In 1952, the Triumph TR1 was presented as a prototype and seduced the public thanks to its particularly successful notched bodywork. Poorly designed, the TR1 will never be produced, and the prototype of the London Show was probably destroyed or used to make the one of its big sister the TR2. The chassis of the TR2 is reworked and stiffened, the roadster is equipped with a 4-cylinder engine of 2,0L of displacement which offers to the car a flexibility and an important torque. In 1953, the TR2 is the roadster with the best price/performance ratio and will see its production absorbed at 70% by the United States.
Presented in 1955, the TR3 is an evolution of the TR2, the aesthetic differences are hardly visible, the mechanics of this generation has two larger carburetors and disc brakes will be installed in the front (standard) from September 1956.
With its 95 horsepower and light weight, the TR3 was a success; many celebrities of the time spent their first money on one of these cars.
The driving pleasure of this roadster is incomparable to other convertibles on the market, the driving position is quite satisfying, and this bodywork accentuates the feeling of freedom halfway to the motorcycle.
Acquired in 1983 by the current owner, this example first registered in October 1956 has a nice aesthetic patina. It benefited from a complete restoration (bare chassis) at the end of the 80s. A tune-up will be necessary. Not having left for the United States, this TR3 is one of the few remaining ones in English configuration with a right-hand drive but which does not disturb the driving as the car is narrow and light.
