The Triumph TR2/3 became the best-selling sports car of its day not because it had outstanding looks, not because it had outstanding performance, *or* handling, *or* anything. It was, however, the best package. It combined everything that a sports car should be with the right balance.
Its lines were chunky yet purposeful and they had a cheekiness which later stylists have not been able to reproduce, its chassis was agricultural, but it worked, its engine was torquey and had a glorious exhaust note, and Triumph stayed ahead of the game by introducing such details as exterior handles on the cut-away doors and also disc brakes on the front wheels.
