Beschreibung

A boutique manufacturer, Tracta was founded by Jean Albert Grégoire in 1926, and its initial models were geared towards competition – even winning its class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1927. Grégoire developed the “Tracta joint,” which allowed the front wheels of a car to be driven while still steering, a predecessor of the CV joints that are used today. Tracta joints were used in FWD and 4WD vehicles for decades, including many military vehicles during WWII.

This lovely Tracta D2 is fitted with four-seat, faux cabriolet coachwork by C. Ringlet of Belgium. Its front-drive architecture allows for unique styling, with the rear wheels pushed back as far as possible and a louvered cowl covering the front differential.

Its extensive history file dates as far back as 1933 and documents just five owners from new, including its first, Georges Meurice, who retained it until 1965. Photos and records on file indicate a rebuild prior to 2009 by Atelier VMI in Carpentras, France, with an interior re-trimmed by Bernard Logis SPRL.

As attractive as it is obscure, this Tracta represents an incredibly rare opportunity to experience an early front-drive model of sophistication and style.

*Please note that all of the Lots in this Auction have been in long-term static storage at the Mullin Automotive Museum and may not be currently operational. They will require mechanical attention and in some cases significant restoration prior to any road use.
